Srinagar: Even as police and paramilitary forces have been put on maximum alert across Valley on eve of India-Pakistan semi final match at Mohali, Army has arranged over a dozen giant TV screens at different places in North Kashmir for enthusiastic cricket lovers. In Baramulla known as hub of pro-Pak separatists, Army has arranged giant TV screens for cricket lovers in Sherwani Memorial Hall and Baramulla cricket Stadium. The Sherwani hall is expected to accommodate over 500 viewers while over two thousand cricket lovers will be watching India-Pak semi final match on a giant TV screen in Baramulla Cricket Stadium. “Arranging giant TV screens for cricket lovers of North Kashmir by army to watch the world cup semi final between India and Pakistan tomorrow is a positive step. In my opinion, Army’s move is aimed at bridging the gap between people and men in uniform”, said Sheikh Mushtaq, Manager JK Sports Council, North Kashmir. He said army has also put TV screens at many other places in North Kashmir, where people face regular power cuts. “The giant TV screens will attract huge crowds as people in the Valley are cricket crazy”. Apart from Baramulla town, Army has also arranged giant TV screens at Gulmarg, Uri town, Rampur Uri, Karnah, Kupwara, Trehgam. The installation of TV screens have come as a ‘blessing in disguise’ for the cricket lovers as it will save them from the inconvenience of the unscheduled power cuts and they won’t miss any part of the thrilling India-Pakistan match. “Watching India-Pakistan match with a crowd on a giant TV screen has its own charm. Army has promised uninterrupted power-supply at the Sherwani hall during the semi-final and final of the world cup and it will give us a chance to watch the cricket without any apprehension of power cuts,” said Javed Ahmad of Kantha Bagh, Baramulla, who plans to watch the Indo-Pak cricket contest on giant screen in Sherwani Hall complex. Army spokesman Lt Col J S Brar said the main purpose of putting these giant TV screens is that people should enjoy watching India-Pakistan cricket match. “Kashmiris are cricket crazy. We want people should enjoy cricket and that is why we have arranged these screens at many places across Kashmir”, he said adding, “We hope that it will also bridge the gap between people and Army”.
