Thousands Pray At Hazratbal

Srinagar: Tens of thousands of devotees from across the Valley thronged Hazratbal Shrine here for prayers on the Friday following Eid-Milad-Un-Nabi (SAW). Two persons were wounded in a gate-collapse at the shrine. An estimated 1 lakh devotees including children and women joined the congregational prayers at Hazratbal to catch the glimpse of the Holy Relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The shrine, well decorated and illuminated along with its entire vicinity, witnessed a huge rush of devotees from across the Valley. Two persons were injured when an iron gate they were passing through broke down after the prayers. The duo, Ghulam Ahmad Kambay of Wanihama, Alasteng, and Ali Muhammad Sheikh of Saloora, Ganderbal, were shifted to Bone and Joints Hospital Barzulla for treatment. Government had made special arrangements to facilitate the movement of devotees to the shrine. Hundreds of private and SRTC vehicles ferried the devotees to the shrine. Besides transport, arrangements of power, drinking water, medical aid camps and sanitation were made for the convenience of people. A joint control room was also set up at Hazratbal for maintaining coordination between various departments engaged with the celebrations. Besides Hazratbal, congregational prayers were also held at Asarisharif Kalashpora, Jenab Sahab Soura, Lal Bazar, Pinjoora Shopian, Khiram Sirhama in Islamabad (Anantnag), Seer Hamdan, Kaba Marg Qaimoh and Ahamsharief Bandipora. Director General of Police Khuldeep Khoda today paid obeisance at the Hazratbal Shrine. The DGP also took stock of security and traffic arrangements. He also visited the camp set up by J&K Police to facilitate the people during their visit to the shrine and stressed upon for augmentation of the camp so that it can serve greater number of visitors.
