Another top woman militant, associate nabbed in Doda22 January 2011

Jammu: Going ahead with the drive against women militants, Doda police have captured another female activist of Hizbul Mujahideen from District Hospital, Doda as soon as she was about to accept Rs 50,000 as 'terror fund' from a Block Development Officer (BDO). Police has also arrested another militant working along with the woman, identified as Farooq Ahmed. Two more members of their group, who were extorting money for the Hizbul Mujahideen from Government officers, contractors and other influential persons, were at large and were being chased by police. Ruksana has become third woman militant to be arrested by Doda police in less than a month. Two more women militants have been identified but they were absconding. Official sources told the Excelsior that police came to know through special inputs that a woman militant Ruksana Begum, 32, wife of Ghulam Hassan, a resident of village Shitry, Bhagwa in Doda was operating a group of the militants along with Farooq Ahmed of the same village and two others. All four were working for Hizbul Mujahideen commanders and extorting 'terror fund' from Government officers and officials, contractors, political activists and other influential persons. Getting information that Ruksana had sought Rs 50,000 from Akhter Hussain, Block Development Officer (BDO), Ghat in Doda for Hizbul commanders, police swung into action. Through reliable sources, police came to know that the BDO had agreed to make the payment and the venue was fixed as District Hospital, Doda. As soon as the BDO turned up with the payment, police personnel deployed in plainclothes captured Ruksana. She was whisked away for questioning during which she disclosed identity of her three associates with whom she was working for past quite some time and extorting funds for the militancy. One of her associates, Farooq Ahmed has been arrested by police while two others were absconding. Efforts were on to nab them. All four were involved in militancy for past several months and had collected 'terror fund' from a number of influential persons. Ruksana has been shifted to Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) Jammu to ascertain identity of the persons from whom her group had collected terror fund so far and the total amount she had delivered to her commanders after collections. Farooq Ahmed has also been shifted to the JIC. Sources said some vital clues were expected during interrogation of both the militants including arrests and recoveries. Prior to Ruksana, police had arrested two more women militants including Kulsooma Begum wife of Tariq Ahmed Sheikh, who happened to be brother of Ghulam Nabi Sheikh alias Javaid Qureshi, a divisional commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, who was arrested from Dehradun, Uttaranchal last month. Kulsooma hailed from Labbar, Marmat. Yasmeena Begum daughter of Ghulam Hussain R-o Behota, Marmat has also been arrested by police for her links with Javaid Qureshi. A Chinese pistol and some ammunition were recovered from her. Police said two more women militants have been identified and efforts were on to nab them. While Ruksana has been booked under Sections 212, 216 RPC and 7-25, 7-27 Arms Act, Kulsooma and Yasmeena have been charged under Sections 409 and 411 RPC besides 7-27 and 7-25 Arms Act and 3 Enemy Agent Ordinance. Kulsooma was arrested from the Government Medical College, Jammu where she had come for treatment after evading police for several days. Yasmeena was arrested from Marmat. The operations were executed by police parties led by SP Doda (Headquarters) Arif Mohammad Reshu and DySP Headquarters Nazir Ahmed Ganaie under the supervision of DIG Doda-Ramban range Manish Kumar Sinha and SSP Doda Prabhat Singh.
