Jammu: A day after the arrest of two hardcore militants of Harkat-ul-Jehad Islami (HUJI) outfit in Dachan area, Army and police today rescued two youth including a surrendered ultra, who had re-cycled into militancy, from the clutches of a Hizbul Mujahideen district commander in Palmar area of Patimahal in Kishtwar district. The rescued youths have been identified as Ghulam Mohammad, 22, son of Ghulam Hussain Shah and Mohammad Iqbal son of Wali Mohammad Shah, 20, both residents of Patimahal. DIG Doda-Ramban range Manish Kumar Sinha said a joint team of 17 Rashtriya Rifles and police conducted searches in Palmar and Patimahal areas of Kishtwar district following reports that a surrendered militant Ghulam Mohammad has been re-cycled into militancy by the Hizbul Mujahideen leadership along with another youth Mohammad Iqbal on September 27. Army and police personnel searched a number of suspected hide-outs of the militants during past four to five days. Observing strong presence of Army and police in Palmar and Patimahal areas, the Hizbul militants were reported to have escaped. Troops rescued both the re-cycled militant and fresh recruit and brought them to Kishtwar. Mr Sinha said Ghulam Mohammad had surrendered before security forces in 2008 after a brief spell in militancy. He was again lured into militancy along with Mohammad Iqbal on September 27 by Hizbul Mujahideen district commander Wasif. Wasif was in the process of arranging weapons for both the youths to give them training in mountainous areas of Patimahal. However, before Wasif could succeed to take away the duo into upper reaches, they were captured by Army and police. Both of them are being brought to Kishtwar for sustained questioning by police to ascertain details about the militants responsible for luring them into the militancy. Incharge District SP Kishtwar Kulbir Singh said the duo had met Hizbul Mujahideen district commander Wasif in Patimahal. There were reports that Wasif could be hiding somewhere in Patimahal. A search operation was going on to apprehend or eliminate him as he was instrumental in a series of subversive activities and recruitment of fresh youth into militancy. Sources said both the youth might be handed over to their family members with due advice to keep a vigil on them and prevent them from falling into the trap of militants once again. The incident has indicated that the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit was trying to recruit more local youth into their cadre as it hasnít been able to get fresh manpower from across the Line of Control (LoC).
