Three Troopers Die In Patan Blast

Srinagar: People in Patan, Baramulla protested on streets after they alleged that an army covey attempted to hurl the grenade into the busy market on Thursday, which according to them missed the target and killed 3 army personnel on the spot. Police, however, refute the claim and blame militants for the attack. Meanwhile, Eye witnesses told Rising Kashmir that around 5:30 PM an army conveys of some 6 vehicles passed through the Pattan area towards Baramulla and as they reached into the main chowk army attempted to hurl the hand grenade towards the busy market. The grenade missed the target and exploded into the same army vehicle and caused the causalities. Eye witnesses said immediately after the grenade exploded the buzzing market wore the desolated look as people run for safety leaving their shops and business establishments open. According to shopkeepers in the area if the grenade had not missed the target it would have caused dozens of causalities due to unprecedented rush of people on the eve of Eid festival. Locals said that they approached police immediately and informed about the misdemeanor of army men. They said the police reached on spot and took the stock of situation. Army claimed to police that grenade was hurled by some militants towards the convoy killing 3 of their men. Although police initially refused to admit the theory but later lodge an FIR against the unknown militants for throwing grenade towards army convoy. “Three army men got killed after some militant’s hurled grenade towards the army convoy which was on way to Baramulla. We lodged an FIR against the unknown persons and the investigation is on to trace the culprits,” Sub District Police Officer (SDPO), Pattan, Sajad Ahmad said.
