JAMMU: Warning the Government against any compromise on national sovereignty in Kashmir, the eminent citizens in J&K today stressed on strengthening of those forces which are nursing the democratic values in the State. While commenting on the Prime Minister’s forthcoming visit to J&K and his proposed dialogue with separatist Hurriyat Conference at a joint press conference here today former DGP, M M Khajuria, Head of Gulab Singh Chair in Jammu University, Prof Hari Om and president Panun Kashmir, Dr Ajay Chrungoo cautioned him of holding talks with the forces who on behest of Pakistan have waged a war against the country. 'We caution the Union Government against holding talks with Hurriyat which is the voice of Pakistan and has always taken the Government of India for a ride, said Dr Chrungoo. The war against terror in India is the people’s war and every citizen of the country is terrorists’ target, he said, adding this realization alone will ensure that the political class is barred from any compromise on the vital issues of sovereignty, national security and territorial integrity of India. Opposing the dialogue with separatists as well as Pakistan, Prof Hari Om said J&K is an integral part of India and any settlement with Pakistan should be on PoK in accordance with Indian Parliament’s resolution of 1994. He said the terrorism in J&K is not on the retreat and the current enemy strategy appears to be to use J&K theatre as spring board to launch terrorist strike in rest of the country while keeping the terror pot boiling locally. Even though GoI has taken a firm stand in respect of Mumbai terrorist attack, the required focus on trans-India nature of terrorism originating from Pakistan is missing. The Indian position must therefore, relate to the ground realities and categorically shift from dealing J&K as an issue apart and treat it as a component of overall terrorist war waged by Pakistan and its pan-Islamic allies operating from its soil with her connivance. After heavy doses of double speak, Pakistan has finally and formally debunked and disowned all moves made by and ideas floated for the resolution of Kashmir tangle’’ by its former President Gen. Pervez Musharraf, said Dr Chrungoo while quoting the May 5 statement of Pakistan Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi in this regard. In the light of these statements the GoI should take a firm stand against the Pakistan which entire world knows has been behind the last 20 years terror and mayhem unleashed in J&K, said Mr Khajuria. He said hence the GoI should act in a manner which is in the best interests of the country and it’s people.
