Srinagar: The militants on Monday evening shot dead an Indian paramilitary soldier while on guard in central Kashmir. Spokesman of paramilitary CRPF Prabakar Tripathi said pistol-borne militants fired from point blank range towards a soldier of the force in the crowded Magam market in central Kashmir, some 20 odd kms from the summer capital Srinagar at around 1830 hours. In the militant firing, a soldier identified as Head Constable Mohar Singh died on the spot. 'The attackers managed to escape from the area taking advantage of the chaos that followed after the shoot-out,' he said. He said paramilitary soldiers did not retaliate as it would have caused human loss. Immediately after the militant attack, CRPF and policemen laid siege around the area and launched combing and search operations. However, no arrests were reported. No militant group has owned the responsibility of the attack.
