Gunfight On In Tral

Srinagar: A militant of Hizbul Mujahideen was reportedly killed in an ongoing gunfight with troopers at Dadasar, Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Two army men and a Special Operation Group (SOG) personal were injured in the firefight and have been hospitalised. A senior paramilitary CRPF officer based in South Kashmir told Rising Kashmir that 42 RR, 180 bn CRPF and SOG men launched a joint combing and search operation at Dadasar, Tral in Pulwama district in the wee hours of Wednesday after receiving inputs about the presence of militants in the area. “The troopers sealed the area and zeroed-in on some residential houses, where the militants were reported to be hiding. During the operation, the militants fired from automatic weapons and hurled grenades towards the troopers. The fire was returned, triggering an encounter,” he said. The officer said that the gunfight began at 10 in the morning and the intermittent exchange of firing was going on when reports last poured in. “We have come to know that four militants of Hizbul Mujahideen are trapped in the area. One of them has been killed. However, his body has not been retrieved so far,” he said. The official said two army men and an SOG personal were injured in the ongoing gunfight and have been hospitalized. “One of the houses where from militants were firing has been damaged after IEDs were planted in it. The militants are now firing from adjoining houses,” he said. The CRPF official said that additional troopers have been rushed to the area and they have tightened the siege to prevent the militants from escaping from the area. “Besides we are using Improvised lighting arrangements to ensure that militants don’t escape from the area,” he said. Meanwhile, a local news gathering agency, KNS claimed that two militants Abdul Rashid alias Abu Hamza and Sher Khan were killed. The agency claimed that Hamza was active since 11 years while Khan was a surrendered militant and had rejoined militant ranks recently.
