4 Kashmiris Arrested In Karnataka17 February 2010
New Delhi: Four Kashmiri youth were arrested by Pune Police at Hampi, Karnataka in connection with the February 13 Pune blast in which 11 people were killed and 50 others injured. Sources said a police team from Pune arrested four Kashmiri businessmen dealing in artifacts at Vrapura Gaddee locality in Karnataka. “They were arrested for questioning,” sources said. They said the search for other three was on. Taking strong note of the arrest of the Kashmiri youth, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ali Muhammad Sagar said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had already informed all Chief Ministers of different Indian states not to “harass any Kashmiri”. “So far, we don’t know anything about the arrest of the youth. But if it has happened, we’ll immediately take up the issue with New Delhi. We’ll also find out why these people have been detained,” he said. Sagar said the government won’t allow harassment of Kashmiris working in different Indian states. “We’ll contact both the governments - Karnataka and Pune,” the law minister said. DIG Central Kashmir Zone, H K Lohia said police had no information about the incident. “We’ll find out the reality,” he said. Opposition Peoples Democratic Party President Mahbooba Mufti termed the arrest of Kashmir youth as unfortunate. “It has been happening in all Indian states. People of Kashmir are not safe anywhere. Youth are not even safe in Kashmir. They are being slapped with PSAs and even with acts like anti-national activities that can lead to death sentence,” she said.
