Khan Detained For ‘promoting’ Stone-pelting, Secessionism14 February 2010
Srinagar: Senior Hurriyat leader and chairman of National Front, Nayeem Khan has been accused of inciting youth towards stone- pelting, according to the dossier of charges issued by the court of district magistrate for his detention here on Sunday. According to the dossier, “Khan has been maintaining continuous media presence and issuing press statements regularly which were always secessionist and were aimed at arousing sentiments of people against India. The investigations conducted regarding stone-pelting have revealed that Khan has been working behind the scenes to organize stone-pelting.” Stating that the strategy (stone-pelting) was first witnessed during Amarnath Land Agitation which was in response of people against the allotment of land to SASB, but the secessionists projected it as a support for their ideology, the order reads that Khan was found involved in organizing violent protests during that period and was subsequently arrested by Baramulla police. According to the dossier, after his release in 2009, Khan has been found indulging in launching “vicious media campaign aimed to propagate secessionist ideology and inciting youth to indulge in anti-national activities and instigating them to create law and order problems”. The order has also quoted several newspaper statements terming them inflammatory in nature “that arouse sentiments of general public and created hatred against India”.
