JKLF Announces 10-day Programme, Calls Strike On February 1130 January 2010
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Saturday announced a 10-day long programme to commemorate the death anniversary of JKLF founder, Shaheed Muhammad Maqbool Bhat. The party has given a strike call on February 11 on his 26th death anniversary to press for the demand of handing over his mortal remains and other belongings to his family. In a meeting held at party headquarters at Maisuma and presided over by JKLF chairman, Muhammad Yaseen Malik, the members paid glowing tributes to the martyrs including Shaheed-e-Kashmir, Maqbool Bhat. They announced a ten-day long programme as per which the first programme would be held at Kupwara on February 1. Similar programmes would be held on the following days at Varmul, Budgam, Islamabad, Pulwama, Shopian and Ganderbal. On February 7, special programme would be held at Bhat’s ancestral village Trehgam, Kupwara. On February 9, party is releasing a book on Bhat’s life. JKLF has called a complete shutdown in the valley on February 11. “We want to register our protest for shifting his mortal remains and other belongings to Kashmir,” a party spokesman said. Bhat was executed at Tihar Jail in New Delhi on February 11, 1984.
