Gujjars Move HC Over Protection Of Monuments3 January 2010
Jammu: The Gujjar community in Jammu and Kashmir has approached the High Court seeking protection of tribal properties and historic monuments along the Moghal road. 'We have approached the high court and pleaded for protection of the tribal properties and other historic monuments along the Moghal road. We have prayed for an appropriate action against those intentionally destroying the nomadic cultural heritage,' Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation (TRCF) Secretary, Javaid Rahi, told reporters here today. He said the TRCF has written a letter to the Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court with a prayer to treat it as a PIL'. He said over a dozen of Sarai (temporory shelters) and other seats related to the nomadic Gujjar identity and historic monuments on the 87-km road were deliberately ruined during the past few years.
