Mirwaiz Urges India To Clear Policy On Kashmir Issue
9 October 2009
: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) today hoped that [Indian] Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh during his coming visit to Kashmir would come with some solid policy about Kashmir issue. Addressing a Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid here he added that PM rather than playing politics through the traditional economic packages should accept the real political facts and announce measures for the basic solution of Kashmir issue. Mirwaiz said time has now come for the government of India to give up its traditional rigid stance and respect the views of international community for the solution of Kashmir issue. “Rather than crushing the voice of Kashmiris through power, government of India must initiate an extensive and meaningful dialogue with Pakistan and Kashmiri leadership for the solution of Kashmir issue as per the aspirations of the people,” he said. Referring to his foreign trip Mirwaiz claimed that besides America, Britain, France and China even Russia has understood the sensitivity of Kashmir issue and want solution of the issue. The 56 member OIC unanimously accepted through a resolution the right of self determination for Kashmiris and also accepted that Kashmir issue continues to be disputed for last 62 years. OIC also believes that no electoral process could change disputed nature of Kashmir issue, Mirwaiz observed. He observed that Kashmir issue will remain unresolved till the people of Kashmir are not asked to give their opinion about their political future. Hurriyat (M) chairman described as a diplomatic victory of Kashmiris the appointment of OIC special observer on Kashmir. According to him, Kashmir issue is not administrative issue but it is related to the rights, aspirations and future of Kashmiris. The issue needs to be solved as per the aspirations of the people. “We expect Dr Manmohan Singh to come forward with a solid policy on Kashmir and stop doing politics through the traditional packages. Hurriyat firmly believes in peaceful solution of Kashmir issue and we want talks with Pakistan and India together provided those are Kashmir centric,” Hurriyat (M) chairman added.
