New Delhi: With elections days away, People's Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Wednesday said self-rule was the only 'workable and viable' solution for the Kashmir issue. 'Self-rule proposal is the only workable and viable solution of vexed Kashmir problem and the party will aggressively pursue the self-rule agenda to establish lasting peace in this region,' Sayeed said on the occasion of party's foundation day. The former Chief Minister termed the elections as an 'opportunity' to elect a party which can facilitate restoration of sustainable peace in the State. He also said while leading a coalition for three years, the party had created a conducive atmosphere for initiating peace process and taking confidence building measures to normalise relations between India and Pakistan. He offered the party's cooperation to solve the Kashmir issue with honour and dignity and claimed credit for the improved law and order situation in the State. On the allegation of discrimination against Jammu region by his previous government, he dared the critics to prove the charge. 'Our government had initiated many steps to remove discriminations. In every sphere of life, equal treatment is given to all regions of State,' he said and pointed out that Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions were treated equally while allotting universities, colleges and schools and launching developmental projects.
