Srinagar: The National Conference MLA from Eidgah constituency in Srinagar escaped a bid on his life when some terrorists threw a hand grenade at him on Wednesday. Mubarak Gul is representing the constituency for the last three terms and is likely to contest the election from the same seat. The incident took place when legislator Mubarak Gul was going to meet an ailing party worker, Mohammand Yousuf Bhat, at Chamar Doori locality in old city in the afternoon. However, no one was hurt in the blast which took place in the residential premises of Bhat. This is the first terror attack since the dates for seven-phase assembly elections were announced in Jammu and Kashmir last month. The first phase of elections will be held on November 17 and the last on December 24. The results would be announced on December 28. In another incident, an irate mob attacked the house of one Ghulam Mohammad Khan at Shamlipora in Noorbagh in old city with stones because he had invited NC's chief ministerial candidate Farooq Abdullah and another party leader Ali Mohammad Sagar for dinner. Later Khan apologised to the crowd and assured them that he would not invite the leaders again.
