London: A strike by local traders has shut most shops and businesses in Indian-administered Kashmir. The one-day protest was called by the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation against rising fuel costs. Private bus and truck owners have been on strike since Monday for the same reason, disrupting transport services. Protests have taken place across India since the government increased fuel prices by up to 10% last week in response to surging world oil prices.
