SRINAGAR: Shattering a six-month lull in Srinagar, a powerful blast damaged the city’s only flyover near the Civil Secretariat this afternoon, killing one person and leaving 20 others, mostly pedestrians, injured. SSP Afhaad-ul-Mujtabla said “militants planted an IED on the flyover near an observation post”. One person has been detained on grounds of suspicion. The Hizbul Mujahideen owned up for the attack. In a statement to a local news agency, the outfit’s spokesman Khalil-ul-Rehman said “The attack was aimed at a CRPF vehicle that was taking the flyover.” The last explosion in Srinagar took place on September 1 last year when militants set off a car bomb at Hyderpora on the airport road.
