PCC leaders hail Sozís appointment

JAMMU : Social Reformer, Political Activist, Founder Member and Former President Jammu and Kashmir Unjuman-i-Ithad-ul-Muslimeen and well-known revenue expert of the State Munshi Ahmad Ali Shawl passed away last night after having heart stroke. He was 85 and recovering from recently conducted operation. Father of Deputy Director Information (PR) Fida Ali and father in law of Imdad Saqi journalist, Mr. Shawl is survived by two sons, three daughters and grand sons and great grand sons and daughters. His demise has widely been condoled by the people in general and opinion leaders of various shades in particular, describing him a God fearing, honest and noble soul who always championed the unity of Muslim community and served the people in general. He was the front runner in Quit Kashmir Movement and a member of State Demarcation Committee that finalized the boundaries of Jammu and Kashmir with Himachal Pradesh. He also remained President of J&K Patwar Association almost throughout his service period. The Chaharum of Mr. Shawl will be observed on February 15, 2008 (Friday) at Bhagwanpora Lal Bazar Srinagar At his funeral and burying ceremony thousands of people from all walks of life participated. Director Information Zaffar Ahmad, Joint Director of Information, Jammu S. K. Sharma, Joint Director of Information Kashmir Khursheed Ahmad Geelani and Officers and the officials of the Information Department expressed grief over the demise of Munshi Ahmad Ali Shawl popularly known as Shawl Sahib and conveyed heartfelt sympathies to Fida Ali and bereaved family and prayed for peace to departed soul. PCC leaders hail Sozís appointment Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Feb 14 Senior leaders of Pradesh Congress Committee have lauded the decision of the party high command for appointing Union Minister and a Kashmiri leader Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz as new president of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee. While welcoming the appointment of Prof Soz in a meting here today, the State Congress leaders have extended full support to the party rank and file to the new PCC chief for further strengthening the party in the State in order to gear up organisation for the assembly elections to be held later this year. They claimed that Congress Party will be benefited by the rich experience and stature of Mr Soz as head of the state unit. They also expressed gratitude to the AICC president Mrs Sonia Gandhi for this decision. Prominent among those present included Dharam Paul Sharma, Parduman Singh, Yash Paul Khajuria, Amrit Malhotra, Th Hari Singh, Ravinder Sharma, Baldev Sharma, Shiv Dev Singh, Farida Mir, Vinod Sharma, Kanta Bhan, Indu Pawar, Puran Singh, Ashok Sharma, K L Gupta, Ashwani Puri, Subhash Gupta, Vinod Mishra, Om Chopra, Shah Mohd, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Swarn Lata and others.
