Tarigami: dialogue must be inclusive
11 January 2008
NA: Speaking on the Governor’s address in the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Tarigami said: “The crisis in Pakistan should not be a distraction and come in the way of a credible process of dialogue with the people of J&K. The dialogue should be inclusive and take into account the diversities within the State. It has to be multi-layered so that the aspirations of the people of every region are respected.” He underscored the need for implementation of reports of the working groups appointed on the initiative of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Stressing the need to strengthen the panchayati raj system, he regretted that district board meetings had not been held for long. He admitted that human rights violations had decreased in the recent past but pointed out that the State Human Rights Commission needed to be strengthened.
