MUZAFFARABAD: Slain PPP leader Benazir Bhutto wanted to attend marriage ceremony of two daughters of an AJK Assembly member on Dec 29 and specially complained to him why she had not been invited. This humane aspect of the popular lady was recalled at a condolence reference organised by the AJK chapter of Pakistan Peoples Party to pay homage to her here on Friday. It was first disclosed by a party leader in his speech, which brought tears to the eyes of almost everyone, and later confirmed by the PPP-AJK president Chaudhry Abdul Majeed to this correspondent. Majeed, also a member of the AJK Legislative Assembly, said at the Liaquat Bagh rally Ms Bhutto signalled him to come close and much to his surprise asked him why hadn't he invited her at the wedding ceremony of his (two) daughters, scheduled for Dec 29. I was literally taken aback when she, despite being busy beyond description, extended felicitations in advance to me in connection with the wedding of my daughters and said in a compassionate tone that why she was not invited, a visibly upset PPP-AJK president recalled. I replied to BB that it was only due to her pressing en- gagements across the country that he had not extended in- vitation and that he would specially invite her after Jan 8, he added Majeed said BB also appreciated the performance of PPP-AJK in the partys programmes in Pakistan and said that she had reserved some gifts for his daughters which she wanted to handover him after the rally. I left the venue a bit earlier because some prominent figures in AJK, including Khawaja Farooq Ahmed, were announcing their decision to join the PPP and in the meanwhile there was a gun and bomb attack which deprived us of the worlds great and matchless leader, he said. Majeed said the wedding ceremony for which dozens of his relatives and friends had already arrived in Pakistan from the UK was then cancelled by him. He said earlier when he was arrested in Rawalpindi on Nov 9 during a demonstration and detained in Adyala and Multan jails for two weeks, the Nikah ceremony of his daughters, scheduled for Nov 11, was also deferred.
