Prof Punjabi assumes charge of KU VC

Jammu: Prof Riyaz Punjabi today formally assumed the charge as Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir. Interacting with the media-persons soon after assuming the charge, Prof Punjabi sought the co- operation of the University community and the society at large in taking the varsity to new heights. Earlier, on his arrival, Prof Punjabi was profusely garlanded by the top officials and KUMSA members. The new VC also received a guard of honor by University Police and the proctor staff. Later outgoing VC Prof Abdul Wahid handed him over the charge. It is worthwhile to mention here that Dr Punjabi has served as Professor and Chairman, Department of Distance Education, Dean Faculty of Non-Formal Education in the University of Kashmir. He has been a visiting Professor in Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi and a visiting fellow on human rights at the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla and a visiting fellow at the Centre for South Asian Studies, Switzerland. Author of several books and edited volumes, Dr Punjabi has contributed more than 100 research papers in the Indian and international academic journals on Law, Peace and International Relations. He has participated and contributed papers in more than 50 international conferences on diverse themes and subjects. Dr Punjabi is also the Honorary Director, European Institute, New Delhi. Graduated from S P College in Srinagar. he obtained the degrees of Masters in Law and Doctorate in Law from Aligarh Muslim University. Although a student of Law, he was appointed Editor of Aligarh Magazine under Prof Alley Ahmed Suroor for his keen interest in Urdu literature.
