Intra-Kashmir Conference 2008 In Delhi18 December 2007 kashmirwatch
Srinagar: An Intra-Kashmir Conference will be organized by Awami National Conference (ANC) soon in New Delhi. This was stated in a statement issued at the end of party meeting here today. Senior leader Muzaffar Shah was also present. Journalists and prominent editors from outside India and the Valley will be invited for the conference. Today's meeting expressed grave concern over the deteriorating human rights situation and the failure of the state government on all fronts. The speakers expressed full faith in their party leader G M Shah, former chief minister. The Awami National Conference had invited President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AJK Prime Minister Sardar Sikander Hayat Khan to participate in a three-day intra- Kashmir conference to be held in Srinagar on June 2, 2006. ANC had initiated the idea of the Intra-Kashmir Conference, focusing on people-to-people dialogue in 2001. The conference was stalled in 2001 to 2006 due to non-availability of travel documents for the invitees and tension between the two neighbouring countries.
