Militant killed in Bandipore operation

Srinagar: Army and Police today claimed to have killed a militant in an ambush at Dalwath in Safapora area. Official sources said that working over a tip off, Police and troops of Rashtriya Rifles 13 Bn laid an ambush at Dalwath, near Rang Behak, on Safapora-Bandipore Road this evening. As a group of three to four militants, which was on way to Ajas from Bandipore, was spotted and intercepted at Dalwath, militants opened fire. Troops retaliated but about three militants managed to escape unharmed. Their fourth accomplice got killed in a brief encounter with the joint party of Police and Army. He was believed to be a Pakistani cadre of Lashkar-e-Toiba but his identification was not available immediately. Sources said that, Police and security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the nearby localities which was underway till late tonight. However, immediately there was no other shootout or recovery of arms from any hideout. Sources said that Police recovered the dead body of a civilian, Ghulam Nabi Shah S- o Qallandar Shah, at Wusan in Ganderbal area. It was found hanging against a tree in nullah Sindh.
