Srinagar: A 'divisional commander' of Al-Badr group was killed in a day-long gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir, where militants shot dead a youth today, police said. Bilal Afghani alias Chota Bilal was killed in a joint operation by police and CRPF personnel at Arath village in Badgam district this evening, SSP S A H Bukhari said. After a tip-off on the presence of militants inside a house in the village, the security forces sealed and cordon the area last evening. In the morning when the forces tried to clear the area, the ultras fired at them, triggering the shootout. An AK assault rifle and an under barrel grenade launcher were from the site. Bukhari said Chota Bilal, an 'A' category militant, was wanted in connection with a number of subversive activities in Badgam and Bandipora districts. He was particularly active in the Soibug-Beerwah belt in the past few years and was involved in many attacks on police and security forces besides several killings, including that of a Tangmarg councillor recently, Bukhari said. In another incident, police recovered the bullet- riddled body of 25-year-old Firdous Ahmad Reshi, a resident of Mundji, from Zainageer canal on the outskirts of Dooru village in Baramulla's Sopore town. Reshi is the fourth person killed by suspected militants in Sopore since the past week.
