Infiltrator gunned down on LoC, others sneak in

Srinagar: An infiltrator was killed while others were reported to have succeeded in successfully crossing Line of Control (LoC) from forward village of Dadyal in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district as Army and police gunned down a militant in Gandoh area of Doda district last evening. Official sources said security forces observed movement of a group of militants trying to intrude into Indian territory from Dadyal in Sunderbani sector last night. Security personnel asked the militants to surrender but they opened firing and made a determined attempt to sneak into this side. Security forces retaliated and an exchange of firing between the two sides continued for more than three hours after which the firing stopped from militantsí side. Today morning, security forces spotted one body of an infiltrator lying close to LoC. Efforts were on to identify slain militant but he was reported to be a Pakistani. A rifle and some ammunition were lying near him, sources said. Security forces didnít suffer any casualties in the operation. Sources added that other infiltrators were reported to have managed to enter into this side of LoC. A massive search operation has been launched to apprehend them. Special Operations Group (SOG) of police and troops gunned down a Lashkar-e- Toiba (LeT) militant in an encounter at village Kither in Gandoh area of Doda district last night. Slain militant has been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed (code Abu Tarab) son of Gaffar Khan, a resident of Lohar, Thathri. Another report said that the militant was killed by his associates in a group clash as he was planning to surrender. Associates of Imtiyaz managed to escape in injured condition from the village, sources said. A rifle with ammunition and a UBGL were recovered from the spot, sources said. Four Chinese-made hand grenades were recovered by security forces from Chamrer Ki Gali near Dera Ki Gali in Rajouri district last evening during a search operation. No arrests were made during the searches. Besides hand grenades, one radio set (ICom) was also recovered from the spot, sources said. Meanwhile, a Forest Department employee was murdered in a marriage function by some unknown persons at village Mulnula near Dhamkote in Ramban district last night. Police have initiated inquest proceedings and launched a search to apprehend the culprits.
