Traditional Gaiety, Fervor Mark Eid Celebrations

Jammu: On the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, a large number of people congregated to offer Eid prayers at Eidgah, today. The prayers were led by the Imam of the Mosque. After the Eid prayers the people exchanged greetings with each other. People from all sections of society joined their Muslim brethren to exchange greetings and gifts symbolizing the centuries old tradition of composite cultural ethos and unity in diversity which has been the hallmark of the region. Children received Eidi on the day of festivities. Adequate arrangements of drinking water, electricity, traffic and security were made by the administration to make the event successful. Speaking on the occasion the Imam thanked the administration for fool proof arrangements and prayed that this Eid brings lasting peace and prosperity to the State. He appealed the people to follow the teachings of Great Messenger (SAW) who preached tolerance and brotherhood saying that society can be cleansed of all the ills by following the path shown by him. At Poonch, like every year Eid-ul- Fitr was celebrated with gaiety where thousands of people offered Namaz at main Eidgah Poonch. People of all religions participated in this festival and exchanged greetings and gifts with their Muslim brothers. District Development Commissioner, Poonch, J.S Pachnanda, Chairman Municipal Committee and other senior officers of civil administration were present on the occasion. Adequate arrangements of drinking water, electricity, traffic and security were made by the administration to make the event successful. He appealed the people to follow the teachings of Prophet Mohammad (SAW) who showed the path of tolerance and benevolence. Imam of Eidgah thanked the administration for making all necessary arrangements for the holy month of Ramzan and Eid-ul-Fitr. He also prayed for the peace and prosperity of the people of the State. Eid -ul-Fitr was also celebrated with great enthusiasm in Doda, Rajouri, Udhampur, Ramban, Reasi, Mendar, Surankote, Mandi and other parts of Jammu region where people in large numbers offered prayers. Eid-ul-Fitr marks the culmination of pious month of Ramadan which stands for high spiritual values of patience, mutual tolerance, self restrain compassion and brotherhood. People also reaffirm their faith in the Almighty and his teachings to adopt a normal life to become good citizens for serving the community in a better way.
