Hawala Network Busted In Doda, 2 Held With Cash

Jammu: Two children were killed in a blast in a remote village of Bani tehsil in Kathua district this evening while a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant was eliminated by security forces in Banihal tehsil of Ramban district.Doda police busted a hawala racket by apprehending two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and effecting recovery of Rs 3 lakh hawala money from their possession. Arrests were made from Passari area of Bhadarwah town in early hours of this morning. Reports said two children were killed in a blast at village Baljedi near Dhuggan, about eight kms from Bani at 5.30 pm today. They have been identified as Pappu, 13, son of Dian Singh and Champa Rani, 16, daughter of Shoba Ram, residents of Baljedi. Reasons behind the blast couldn't be ascertained immediately though police parties along with explosive experts reached the spot after getting a report of the explosion. Both children had died on spot. It could be either a grenade with which the children might have fiddled or it could even be a mine explosion, police said, adding exact reasons behind the blast would be known only after splinters of the device are sent for examination. SSP Doda Manohar Singh said Doda police today arrested two LeT militants from Passari area of Bhadarwah town and recovered Rs 3 lakh hawala money from their possession. Arrests were made by a Bhadarwah police station party headed by SHO Inspector Ajay Jamwal. The militants have been identified as Naseer Ahmed Beig alias Raju Beig son of Bashir Ahmed Beig R-o Puneja, Bhadarwah and Mukhtiar Ahmed son of Mohd Amin R-o Nalthi, Bhadarwah. Both of them were working as Over Ground Workers (OGWs) for LeT outfit and used to shift hawala money and arms for the militants. They were taking Rs 3 lakh of hawala money for LeT commander Ashiq Hussain in the forest area of Bhadarwah. However, they were nabbed before they could deliver the consignment to Ashiq Hussain. Police was conducting searches for Ashiq. A case against the accused has been registered under Sections 10, 17, 18, 19 and 20 of Unlawful Activities Act and 121-A RPC at Bhadarwah police station. Police said Raju Beig is a hardcore OGW of LeT and was earlier also arrested under Arms Act. Both of them were being questioned. A LeT militant Asif Ali Sheikh alias Soba son of Abdul Ali Sheikh R-o Rampura, Kulgam in Anantnag district of Kashmir was gunned down by Rashtriya Rifles, Territorial Army and police in a joint encounter at Gund Adaikot in Banihal tehsil of Ramban district this morning. One sniper rifle, two magazines and two rounds were recovered from the slain ultra. A former Panchayat member Talib Hussain has been detained by security forces for questioning in Manjakote area of Rajouri district. Troops of 60 Rashtriya Rifles recovered two IEDs- one weighing five kg and another two kg-from village Samot in Budhal area of Rajouri district.
