2 Militants, Civilian Killed

Srinagar: Two militants and a civilian were killed in Kashmir valley where security forces recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition, including RDX. Tension gripped in the Batmaloo area of the city, about half a km from the Civil Secretariat, when militants shot at and wounded a security jawan this afternoon. He was later shifted to hospital. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Kupwara, said Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a joint operation at Chalwan Dar Mohalla in Lolab valley in north Kashmir after receiving information about the presence of militants there. During the operation, an encounter took place in which two militants were killed. Two AK rifles, 7 magazines, 212 rounds of ammunition and two wireless sets were recovered from the slain militants, he added. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police for north Kashmir B Srinivas said 'two militants entered the house of a released ultra at Gujri Mohalla at Handwara and demanded dinner.' After having dinner, the militants took some food with them in a packet and killed the brother of the released ultra Abdul Majid Gujri. Security forces busted hideout and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition, including one AK rifle butt, 12 magzines, 250 rounds of ammunition 20 kg explosives, 8 IEDs boxes, 15 UBGL, six detonators and one pistol silencer at Baba Gund Pattan in Baramulla. However, no one was arrested, he said.
