Militant Killed, IED Defused

Srinagar: A Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant was killed in Kashmir valley where security forces defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and recovered some ammunition. An official spokesman said that in a joint operation of the Army and Special Operation Group (SOG) of State Police at village Rajpora, Zachaldara, in the frontier district of Kupwara this morning, a HM militant Mushtaq Ahmed was killed. Two AK rifles and 5 magazines were recovered from the encounter site. The spokesman said that Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and police averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused a powerful IED planted by militants near Auqaf Building at Badyari Chowk. Police recovered a wireless set, a detonator and 2 RCDs during a search operation from Palnar Sogam jungles. Meanwhile, a man was arrested today with a mobile SIM card meant to be delivered to a Hizbul Mujahideen militant inside the heavily guarded Srinagar Central Jail here. Troops of 46th battalion of CRPF arrested Mohammad Iqbal Shah, a resident of Paniwah of Kulgam district, who had concealed the SIM card in cigarette pack and was on his way to deliver it to the detained Hizb militant Naushad Ahmad Ganai. A CRPF spokesman said that Shah was arrested at the gate of the high-security jail. Before being handed over to the police for investigation Shah told the interrogators that he was given the SIM card by Naushad's fiance.
