Self-styled LeT Commander Shot Dead In J-K

Srinagar: A self-styled operational commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit was shot dead by police in frontier district of Kupwara on Wednesday. The militant identified as Tayib alias Abu Tallah was killed in an encounter with local police at Hanjipora in Kupwara, 110 kms from here, Superintendent of Police, Kupwara, Vijay Kumar said. Acting on specific information, police cordoned Hanjipora village and asked the militant commander to surrender. Finding himself trapped, the commander opened fire and in the return fire he was killed. Kumar said the slain militant was involved in number of subversive activities including the killing of a senior Army officer in Bandipora district last year. Colonel Chauhan and his body guard were killed in that encounter. He said Abu Tallah was operating in Bandipora district till last year and had recently shifted to Kupwara district. An AK rifle, its three magazines and two hand grenades were recovered from the slain militant.
