Three Top LeT Militants Killed In J&K

Srinagar: A self-styled divisional commander of Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit was among three top militants killed in a fierce gunbattle in Badgam district on Monday. The encounter took place at village Mirpora-Chewdara in Beerah area when police assisted by CRPF launched a search operation following specific information about presence of some militants, Senior Superintendent of Police, Badgam, Ashiq Hussain Bukhari said. He said the militants were trapped in an open field and asked to surrender. However, they opened fire and in the ensuing gunbattle lasting several hours, three militants were killed. One of the slain militants has been identified as divisional commander of LET, Chotta Furqan. Terming the killing of the three militants as a major success, a police spokesman said Furqan was one of the most wanted militants and was active in the district for the past several years. Three AK 47 rifles, some grenades and a large quantity of ammunition has been recovered from the site of the encounter, the spokesman said.
