Iranian Diplomat Chairs Inter-religious Meet In Ladakh

Srinagar: Muslim and Buddhist leaders in Kashmir's frontier Ladakh region joined an interactive session with a visiting senior Iranian diplomat on Tuesday. Organized by Anjuman-e-Imamiya, at Indus Hotel Choglamsar in Leh, the capital of Buddhist dominated district, the session was attended by heads of all religious organizations with Cultural Councilor of Iranian embassy in New Delhi Murtaza Shaffi Shakeeb being the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Shakeeb stressed the need for all spiritual leaders to work together for bringing peace and harmony to the world. He suggested that an inter faith seminar be held either at Leh or in Delhi. Dr. Sonam Dawa of Ladakh Buddhist Association, Leh, in his address welcomed the Iranian diplomats who are regular visitors to Ladakh and appreciated and thanked them for extending help in preservation and restoration of Iranian style paintings housed in the Buddhist monasteries. Dr. Dawa invited Shakeeb to visit Leh for an interaction with the Buddhist spiritual leader Dalai Lama who will be visiting Ladakh during the 2nd week of August. Advocate Shafi Lassu Chief of Leh Muslim Association and E.S. Gergan President Moravian Church, Leh also spoke on the occasion. Ashraf Ali Barcha, President of Imamia Association presented the vote of thanks. During their stay at Leh, the Iranian diplomats besides visiting Hemis Gonpa, Stock-Shey palaces, Shah Hamadan Masjid also attended the 18th death anniversary of Imam Khomeini, the leader of Islamic Revolution in Iran.
