2 Militants Killed, 3 Soldiers Injured

Srinagar: Even as two militants got killed in an encounter with security forces in Tral area today, three soldiers sustained injuries in an IED blast in Sopore. Informed sources said that on the basis of a specific information, troops of RR 50 Bn and a police party led by SP Awantipore Sardar Khan conducted a search operation in Nagberan slopes outside Dachhigam National Park in Tral area this afternoon. During the operation, an encounter took place between militants and security forces in which two militants got killed. A Police spokesman said that SOG also participated in the operation. He said that one of the militants killed was identified as Ashiq. Officials believe that both of the militants were members of Al-Badar Mujahideen. Sources said that earlier at 1115 hours today, militants caused an IED blast at Bilalabad, Chinkipora, in Sopore outskirts on Sopore-Bandipore Road. The IED had been planted by militants in a hand cart. One of the vehicles of a BSF convoy, which was on way to Sopore from Bandipore, was hit. Head Constable Driver Suresh Paul of BSF 51 Bn, besides two Constables, Vijay Chand Shukla and Hari Singh, sustained injuries. Hizbul Mujahideen has claimed responsibility.
