Militant killed in Kupwara gunbattle

Srinagar: One militant has died in the overnight gunbattle at Sangranpatti in Kupwara district. Informed sources said that one of the two militants holed up in an operation at Sangranpatti in Kupwara has been killed but another has managed to escape. As already reported in this newspaper, troops of 17-Dogra and SOG Kupwara had launched the operation late last night and a gunbattle had begun after two militants were spotted at a hideout. Sources said that the militant killed in the gunbattle remained unidentified. Meanwhile, dead body of the militant, hit by CRPF 155 Bn while guarding the railway track near Melhora on May 22, has been recovered from Rambiara nullah. It has been identified as that of Imtiaz Ahmed Wani alias Murtaza S-o Mohammad Sidiq Wani S-o Bandzua, Pulwama. Officials said he was a Hizbul Mujahideen militant who had been operating in Bijbehara- Pulwama belt for the last two years. Ten of the infiltrating militants, who had surrendered before Army in Tangdhar area yesterday, have been officially identified as Ghulam Hassan Ganai alias Umar Aftab S-o Ghulam Ahmad Ganai R-o Argam, Bandipora (KLM), Showkat Ahmad Sheikh S-o Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh R-o Gujarbel Bandipora (JUM), Tariq Ahmad Bhat alias Umar Adnan S-o Ghulam Ahmad Bhat R-o Sumlar Bandipora, (KLM), Maqsood Ahmad Wani alias Bilal S-o Mohammad Hayaat Wani R-o Modmadi Lolab, Kupwara (KLM), Ghulam Nabi Chaudary alias Zaffar Iqbal S-o Mangta Chaudry R-o Lone Harry, Kupwara (TEJ), Imtiyaz Ahmad Wani alias Aftab Alam S-o Abdul Razaq Wani R-o Watred, Raithan, Budgam (HM), Sameer Ahmad Rather alias Shahid S-o Ghulam Ahmad Rather R-o Arath Budgam (HM), Javaid Ahmad Pir alias Jaffer S- o Ghulam Hassan Pir R-o Netipora Dooru Anantnag (KRF), Mukhtar Ahmad Qazi alias Ishaq S-o Abdul Rashid Qazi R-o Hiller, Shahabad Dooru Anantnag (KRF) and Abdul Majeed Bhat alias Saifullah S-o Ghulam Mohammad Bhat R-o Sodal, Handwara, (Al-barq). As exclusively reported by EXCELSIOR, these infiltrating militants had surrended at Tangdhar, near LoC, yesterday. Officials today said that they surrendered with three AK rifles, three AK magazines, 58 rounds of ammunition, one .303 rifle, seven pistols , seven pistol magazines, pistol ammunition 44 rounds, 6 hand grenades and one wireless set. One of the surrendered militants namely Gh. Nabi Chaudary has brought his wife Noorjehan, 5-year-old son Mujtaba and 4-year-old daughter Iqra with him.
