Srinagar: Seven militants, one soldier and a civilian have died in three gunbattles between militants and security forces in Pulwama district in south Kashmir since last evening. Informed sources told the EXCELSIOR that on the basis of a specific information available with Pulwama Police, Special Operations Group (SOG) and troops of Rashtriya Rifles 53 Bn and 55 Bn swooped on the residential house of one Mohammad Ramzan Teeli at Kesrigam in Kakapora area of Pulwama district late last night. During the search operation, two holed up militants opened fire which triggered off a fierce gunbattle. Both the militants were killed in the nightlong encounter. They were identified as Arshid Ahmed Dar alias Umar S-o Mohammad Akbar Dar R-o Kandi Aglar, Pakharpora, and Waseem Bhai of Pakistan. Officials said that both belonged to Jaish-e-Mohammad. They said that Waseem, reportedly involved in many killings in Srinagar district, was believed to be a 'District Commander'. Arshid was allegedly involved in a number of killings and attacks on security forces including beheading of a civilian in Pinglena recently. Sources said that a soldier, Rajesh Chaudhry of RR 53 Bn, also got killed in the same gunbattle. Sources said that on yet another specific information, men of SOG's Imamsahib unit and troops of RR 62 Bn launched a cordon- and-search operation at Chak Matribugh village in Kachhdora-Sangam belt of Pulwama district today. During the operation, an encounter took place between the holed up militants and security forces in which a total of four militants got killed at two different structures. They were identified as Nauroz Ahmed Lone alias Ans S-o Hameedullah Lone R-o Shuchh, Kulgam, Assad Imran alias Hamza (believed to be a Pakistani cadre of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen), Nazir Ahmed Sheikh alias Aftab S-o Ghulam Hassan Sheikh R-o Rakh Littar (HuM) and Liaquat Ahmed Lone alias Fighter Khan alias Kaka Driver S- o Nisar Ahmed Lone R-o Chak Kachhdora, Shopian (Al-Badar). Sources said that no collateral damage or civilian casualty took place in this operation which was worked out on last evening's trap call and subsequent attack of militants on a Police party in the same area. Sources said that two unidentified militants opened fire on a patrol party of CRPF guarding the under-construction railway track at Malhora, near Sangam, today. In retaliation, CRPF hit a militant who dropped his AK-47 rifle and escaped but drowned while trying to cross Rambiara nullah. His body had neither been spotted nor recovered till late tonight. Officials believe that he was the most wanted commander Ashfaq of Wachi. Sources said that another militant escaped with his indiscriminate firing in all directions and managed to hide in Malhora village. In this encounter, one local civilian, namely Farooq Ahmed Koka S-o Juma Koka, got killed. Officials claimed that he died in the escaping militant's firing.
