Islamabad: Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) Secretary General Prof Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu on Tuesday reaffirmed the OICs commitment to implement the UN Security Councils resolutions on Kashmir along with expediting the search for a final solution. Addressing the 34th session of the Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers here at Jinnah Convention Centre, the OIC secretary general said the organisation was defending the Muslim worlds major causes, regardless of whether they were in Iraq, Palestine, Kashmir, Somalia or elsewhere. Ihsanoglu said the OIC had dispatched a special mission to Kashmir, which had met with the president, prime minister and military officials of Azad Kashmir at the Line of Control. He appreciated President Pervez Musharrafs support for Islamic action and said his [Musharrafs] unwavering efforts to champion just Islamic causes was a strong testimony to his belief in Muslim advancement, progress and ascent. The OIC secretary general said the organisation was endeavouring to promote Islamic solidarity. We are doing our best to defend Islam as a radiant civilisation and shedding light on its values, including moderation, peace, tolerance and diversity. Ihsanoglu said the Muslim world was facing a defining moment in its history and the OIC had worked out a very detailed and comprehensive road map for its plans over the next ten years. Earlier, Azerbaijan Foreign Minister Dr Elmar Mammadyarov said his country encouraged all OIC member states to continue efforts for conflict resolution in the Islamic world according to international law. He said Azerbaijan, during its tenure, had participated in humanitarian assistance programmes through the OIC and UN frameworks. The outgoing chairman of the Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers said the establishment of OIC groups in non-OIC capitals and international organisations had been an important part of his chairmanship. He said Azerbaijan was hosting the OIC International Scientific Conference in June to discuss the role of tourism on OIC countries economies. He said Azerbaijan, in 2008, would also convene a forum on literacy in the Islamic world from a global and comprehensive prospective, as well as host the 4th session of the Islamic Conference of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ministers in September 2008.
