Two killed, 2 militants held

Srinagar: Two persons, including a woman were killed while two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) were arrested by the security forces in the Kashmir valley . A police spokesman said body of a woman was fished out from river Jehlum at Hajin while another body was recovered at Puhroo last night. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kupwara, Vijay Kumar said after successful operation at Dard Hari by police and troops, in which five militants were killed yesterday, two militants were arrested today. He identified the militants as Bilal Ahmad Mir and Abdul Majid Wani. They were working as guide for militants and helping them to cross the Line of Control (LoC). A Hizbul Mujahideen militant Bilal Ahmed surrendered before the Army in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. Bilal surrendered along with his weapons before the 14 Grenadiers in Lunawari last evening after surviving the day-long encounter at Dardehare in Kupwara, a Defence spokesman said today. Mir, a resident of village Nizampur- Kangan in Ganderbal district, handed over his rifle, ammunition and other stores to the Army. Talking to reporters, Mir said he did not want to continue with violence. Meanwhile, a 30-year-old was killed and his two brothers were injured following a clash between members of two families in Shopian district. All the injured were rushed to the Shopian Sub-District Hospital, where Fayaz Ahmed succumbed to his injuries yesterday. Three persons, belonging to the other family, have been arrested in this connection today. A senior Police Officer said the clash had taken place between family members of Ghulam Hassan Bhat and Abdul Aziz Bhat. 'Hassanís three sons sustained serious injuries in the clash and later one died. We have arrested Azizís three sons in this connection,' he said.
