One killed, 42 wounded in south Kashmir blast

Srinagar: One person was killed and 42 people including two policemen were wounded in a powerful explosion in Pampore town Saturday evening.Police said separatist guerrillas tossed a powerful hand grenade at a posse of local police at Drangbal chowk in Pampore, 23 km from here.'One woman identified as Farida died instantly,' said a senior police officer here. He said 42 others including two cops and 40 civilians were injured in the massive explosion that triggered panic in the saffron-rich Pampore town.'We have shifted all the injured persons to Pampore sub-district hospital. Attending doctors have now referred seriously injured people to various hospitals in capital Srinagar for treatment. Condition of a cop and five civilians is serious,' he added.Police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers rushed to the spot immediately. 'We first evacuated the injured to the hospital as that was our priority,' the officer said.No group has yet owned responsibility for the explosion.
