3 Militants Killed In Kashmir

Srinagar: Three militants, including a self-styled district commander of pro- Pakistan Hizbul Mujahideen, were killed in Kashmir valley official sources said today. Security forces shot dead a Hizb District Commander, identified as Naseer Ahmed Lone, in a fierce gunfight at Sumlar village in North Kashmir's Bandipora district late last night. In another encounter, security forces killed a militant near Dogripura Tregham in the frontier district of Kupwara. The gun- battle erupted after a search party was attacked by militants early today. The identity of the slain militant was being ascertained, the sources said, adding an AK assault rifle, one magazine, one damaged wireless set, one UBGL and 13 rounds of AK ammunition were seized from his possession. Personnel of 21 Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operation Group conducted a search operation at Ahgam village in Zachaldara area this afternoon. During the search, militants fired upon them which was retaliated and in the ensuing gunfight a militant was killed. The operation was still on when reports last came in, sources said.
