Militant held, 3 IEDs defused

Srinagar: Troops of 11 Rashtriya Rifles and Doda police today arrested a top Hizbul Mujahideen militant and defused three powerful Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Doda district. SSP Doda Manohar Singh said Ghulam Nabi Sheikh alias Zaffar son of Jamalu Sheikh R-o Sheikh Mohalla, Pochal in Chatru area was arrested during a joint search operation at Pochal by RR and police. From his possession, one Insas rifle with one magazine and two rounds were recovered. The seized rifle was same which had gone missing from the possession of a police constable outside a Ziarat at Kishtwar on August 20, 2006, Mr Singh said. Two IEDs of one kg each, wrapped in a metal container and fitted with detonators and one IED weighing four kg and concealed in a polythene bag with a safety fuse, were seized on Bagga-Angrala road in Doda this morning by a patrol party of Army, official sources said. The IEDs were destroyed on spot.
