Condemn atrocities of terrorists also: Azad

Jammu: Although he reiterated his government’s commitment of zero tolerance on human rights violations, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said that while condemning human rights violations by any security personnel, political parties should also condemn with same vigour and force violations committed by terrorists as well as their savage activities. Without naming any political party, Mr Azad reminded, 'those raking up the issue of human rights violations should keep in mind that during peak of militancy most of the political activists-both mainstream and separatists, had taken shelter outside the State. At that time it were security personnel who brought situation under control, he recalled. He said that those leaders who are not in the mainstream should also muster courage to condemn terrorists’ activities and continuous human rights violation being committed by them. 'Today both mainstream political parties and separatist organizations are organizing their activities and it was possible all due to the efforts of security personnel’’, he said Talking to media persons, Mr Azad said that after taking over as Chief Minister of the State, he had made it clear that actions of the security forces while fighting militants will be appreciated but human rights violations or custodial killings will never be tolerated at any cost. He said that those who for their personnel promotions and awards were killings innocent civilians in the name of militancy were murderers and deserve the treatment as murderers should be given. Mr Azad, however, said that he will encourage all those security personal who are fighting bravely and with courage against militancy because militants are enemies of nation and people particularly of Jammu and Kashmir. The Chief Minister appreciated statement of Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf against role of violence and gun in Kashmir. He said that realization of this fact by President Musharraf authenticates our stand which we were expressing from the beginning. He said that last 18 years culture of gun has achieved nothing but bloodshed and destruction. He said that it was high time for silencing guns for ever so that atmosphere of peace and tranquility be strengthened and made permanent feature. He said that prosperity and progress of the State was mainly subservient to peace.
