Srinagar: In a major success, Doda Police today gunned down two top terrorists of Pakistan-based militant outfit Harkat-ul-Mujahideen in an encounter in Nali Dolu area under the jurisdiction of Gandoh Police Station this morning. Senior Superintendent of Police, Doda, Manohar Singh said that on a specific information regarding movement of militants in Nali Dolu area of Gandoh, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Police launched search and cardon operation in the dense forest areas of Nali Dolu. During the intense operation, the militants hiding in the area resorted to indiscriminate firing and grenade lobbing on the police party. The police personnel immediately took positions and started effectively retaliating the firing from the other side. The exchange of the firing between police and hiding militants continued for full five hours, during which two top militants of HuM were gunned down. The slain militants have been identified as divisional commander Noor Mohammad alias Ansari, son of Dilmir of Nali Dolu Gandoh and area commander Mohammad Ashraf alias Gauri, son of Ghulam Nabi of Sanwara. A jawan of Special Operation Group (SOG) of State Police— Teg Chand was also injured in the exchange of the firing. He has been hospitalised and his condition was stated to be out of danger, said Mr Singh. Two AK rifles, two magazines, 10 AK live rounds, one Kenwood set, two pouches and other incriminating material were recovered from the encounter site. As the exact number of hiding militants could not be ascertained, police party, however, continued search operation in the area even after the killing of two dreaded militants. Though no other militant was traced yet a hide-out was busted and it seemed that the same was being used by the HuM top commanders to take refuge and dumping of arms and ammunition after conducting their nefarious acts in the area. The SSP said that both the militants were active for the past over eight years and involved in various heinous crimes. 'Ten cases in which these top militants were directly involved have been worked out with their killing', he further said. Both the HuM commanders were involved in killings and kidnappings of innocent civilians besides security force personnel and were also involved in number of dacoities and had created terror in the area. With the killing of both the militants the people of the area have heaved a sigh of relief, he added. The SOG team was led by SI Chanchal Singh Meanwhile, security forces busted a hideout in Budhal area and recovered Dictaphone with chord, 15 rounds of AK, 4.5 kg RDX and safety fuse.
