Court releases Dukhtaran chief
19 January 2007
Srinagar: A local court on Friday released Asiya Andrabi, chief of the right- wing women's outfit Dukhtaran-e-Millat, and 10 others who were arrested on the charge of moral policing. Soon after, she led a protest march and accused the police of patronising immoral activities in Srinagar. The police denied the charge. On Thursday, the Dukhtaran chief, under the banner of the Forum Against Social Evils (FASE), led a group of women and raided a cyber café in downtown Khanyar. 'When we raided the place, we found boys and girls, nine each, aged between 14 and 18 sitting in objectionable positions,' said FASE chairman Gulam Nabi Wani.
