Jammu: Four militants, including a divisional commander of the Harkat-ul- Mujahideen (HuM), were killed by security forces in a remote mountainous area in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir early Thursday. The troops of 58 Rashtriya Rifles and state police threw a cordon around Baraf Wali Gali area, about 200 km north of Jammu, following a tip-off about the presence of militants there, said Superintendent of Police Basant Kumar Rath. The area was at a height of over 8,000 feet. He said the militants were sighted around 3.30 a.m. Thursday and a firefight ensured. 'It was only after an hour of the fighting that the security forces managed to kill the four militants,' the official said. He said the four militants had been identified as Pakistani nationals, including one Abu Salim a divisional commander of HuM. Rath said: 'It was a great success for the security forces and there was no collateral damage.'
