LeT militant, soldier killed in Kashmir gunfight

Jammu: A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) district commander was killed by security forces in a major gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district Saturday during which a soldier and a civilian were also killed.Abu Sohail, district commander of the LeT, was killed by troopers of the 37 Rashtriya Rifles in Banola village in Mendhar, about 200 km north of Jammu, according to S.P. Vaid, inspector general police Jammu zone.The killing of Sohail was described as a major success by the Indian Army.The gunfight took place when troopers raided the house of one Mohammad Rafiq in the village after a tip off that militants were hiding inside.When security forces approached the house, militants hiding inside opened fire, killing a soldier, Lance Naik Varinder. The army troopers retaliated, and in the ensuing gunfight one civilian was killed.
