Two militants killed in Banihal

Srinagar: Army and police today gunned down two Hizbul Mujahideen militants in an encounter at village Lablota in Khari area of Banihal tehsil under the jurisdiction of Ramban police district. DIG Udhampur-Doda range Lalat Indu Mohanty said troops of 23 Rashtriya Rifles and police launched a search operation at Lablota in Khari area this morning after developing an information about the presence of two militants in the area. An abandoned dhok, where the militants had taken shelter, was destroyed in the operation. Both militants were killed in the gunbattle while the security personnel didn't suffer any casualties, Mr Mohanty said. Slain militants have been identified as Qasim Gujjar alias Badshah Khan son of Shamas Din Gujjar, a resident of Lablota and Irshad alias Shaheen son of Lakhiya Gujjar R-o Mahore. Qasim Gujjar was a top militant of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit. Recoveries made from the scene of encounter include two AK rifles, seven magazines and two radio sets.
