Militant killed in Khour

Srinagar: A militant, who was surviving for last one week after being injured in an encounter with Army and police at Malla Parot between Khour and Sunderbani sector, was gunned down today by Army and police in Thong forest area near Dori Daggar in Khour sector. In Doda, police arrested an Over Ground Worker of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and recovered a large quantity of ration from a hide-out of the militants. Official sources said troops of Army's 9 Raj Rifles and police were searching the militant after his associate was killed in an encounter at Malla Parot on November 13 afternoon. Searches were being conducted in the area falling between Khour and Sunderbani since then. This afternoon, the militants was spotted in Thong forest and was asked to surrender as he had sustained a gun shot in his leg. However, he opened firing with his AK rifle on the security personnel, who retaliated. In the exchange of firing, the militant was killed. SDPO Akhnoor Atul Sharma, led the police team. With this, the operation was successful as both militants, who had crossed over to Indian territory from Line of Control (LoC) between Khour and Sunderbani sectors last week, have been killed. On November 13 encounter when the first militant was killed, two Army jawans had also sacrificed their lives while a solder and two police personnel were injured. However, in today's operation, security forces or police didn't suffer any casualties. One AK rifle, five magazines, two grenades and three Motorola wireless sets have been recovered from the slain militant, whose identity hasn't been established. Doda police today arrested an OGW of Lashkar outfit in whose house and encounter had taken place between militants and security forces on August 3 this year in which one Army jawan and a militant were killed and six soldiers were injured. He has been identified as Raees Ahmed Natnoo son of Abdul Rashid Natnoo R-o Gundana. A case against him has been registered. Sources said Raees Ahmed disclosed during questioning that he was providing shelter, food and financial assistance to the militants. More arrests were expected during his further disclosures. Doda police and security forces destroyed a hide-out of the militants at Katri Dhar in Gandoh area of Doda district and recovered 10 quintals rice, eight quintals atta, one quintal sugar, one tin mustard oil, 25 packets of dalda ghee, five kg desi ghee, 40 kg suji, 10 kg dry fruit, 80 litres kerosene oil and two 'tarpals'. Hide-out of the militants was destroyed in the operation. One single barrel muzzle loading rifle was recovered by Territorial Army from Jamlan forest area.
