Student shot in Lolab; protest in Tral

Srinagar: Militants have fired upon a student and two other persons in Lolab and Khrew areas in Kashmir valley even as a woman's dead body has been recovered in Qazigund. Official sources said that suspected militants fired upon a class 9th student, namely Tariq Ahmed Wani S- o Mohammad Maqbool Wani, at Dooraswani in Lolab valley of Kupwara district today. As he sustained injuries and the gunmen escaped, the student was rushed to a Srinagar hospital. Sources said that suspected militants also fired upon a Maruti car in which a contractor, Ishtiaq Ahmed Ganai, and a PHE employee, Gulzar Ahmed Rather, residents of Wuyan, were travelling, in Wuyan-Khrew area on Pampore today. Bullets hit the targeted vehicle, though both the persons travelling in it escaped unhurt. Reports from Anantnag said that Police recovered the dead body of a 55-year-old woman at Chak Badwani in Qazigund area. She was unidentified till late this afternoon. Meanwhile, students in Tral put up a demonstration to protest detention and torture of some of the students and youth by troops of RR 42 Bn in the aftermath of an IED blast at Kehlil the other day. They said that some of the detained youth had been let off after interrogation but a class 11th student, Sheeraz Ahmed Dar, had not been released. Angry students shouted slogans against security forces and resorted to stone pelting on government buildings and shops, forcing a closure. Police swung into action and dispersed the demonstrators with the use of force.
