Gunfight in Kashmir kills three

Srinagar: Two guerrillas and a soldier were killed in an overnight gun battle that started when troops surrounded a Jammu and Kashmir village on suspicion that militants were hiding inside.Police said Rashtriya Rifles troops surrounded Aliyalpora village near Shopian, 70 km from here, Thursday afternoon after receiving information that militants were holed up inside a house there.'The security forces surrounded the village and mounted searches. During the search operation, the troope came under fire from hiding militants resulting in a soldier dying on the spot. One soldier was injured and was taken to hospital,' said a senior police officer here.Giving details of the incident, he said security forces returned the fire. 'In the nightlong fighting, troops killed the two holed up militants. Arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 rifles, were recovered from the site of the incident,' he said.
