Two HUJI militants, six OGWs arrested

Srinagar: Army and police today gunned down a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant in Surankote area of Poonch district and apprehended two top ultras of Harkat-ul-Jehad Islami (HUJI) outfit during an encounter at village Khushal in Chatru area of Doda district. Security forces arrested six Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of the militants while a kidnapped civilian was killed by the militants in Gool. Official sources said troops of 27 Rashtriya Rifles, 153 Territorial Army and Special Operations Group (SOG) launched a joint search operation at village Milan Nauna in Surankote tehsil of Poonch district this afternoon after developing information about the presence of two militants in the area. A contact with the militants was established at 5 pm and one of them was eliminated at 5.50 pm. Another militant managed to escape, the sources said. Slain ultra has been identified as Abu Saberia of LeT outfit. One AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 60 rounds were recovered from him. Security personnel didnít suffer any casualties in the operation. Another operation was carried out by Army and police at Khushal in Chatru area of Doda district this morning. In the operation, two militants were captured alive, DIG Udhampur-Doda range Lalatendu Mohanty said. He identified the arrested militants as Noor Mohd son of Ibrahim Sheikh and Nisar Ahmed son of Mohd Sabir, both residents of Sheikhpura, Khushal in Chatru area. A couple of ultras escaped during the exchange of firing. Recoveries made from the two arrested militants, who belonged to the HUJI outfit, include one AK rifle with one magazine and one SLR with one magazine and 10 rounds. Police recovered dead body of a 60 year old Nambardar Abdul Razak Chandel son of Shubhan Chandel, a resident of Bhimdassa, Gool in Ramban police district from a forest area, about one km from Bhimdassa this morning. The Nambardar was kidnapped on October 28 from near his house by two militants. He had been strangulated with a rope. Three operatives of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were arrested by security forces from village Dhara near Suhigar in Doda district last night from the house of one Noor Mohd. They have been identified as Zakir Hussain, 35, son of Abdul Zabbar R-o Mathudi, Fardeen Ahmed, 25, son of Ghulam Ahmed R-o Doda and Noor Mohd, 28, son of Zameel Ahmed R-o Dhara. Zakir Hussain used to raise funds for the militancy, the sources said, adding all three have been handed over to Doda police station for questioning. Another OGW Abdul Rehman, 25, son of Jamaldin R-o Buzala was arrested by security forces from Buzala in Banihal tehsil of Ramban police district. He belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen outfit. Abdul Rashid son of Mohd Shabban R-o Kiwa and Mohd Riaz son of Ghulam Mohd Qadir R-o Chukron were also arrested by security forces for working as OGWs of the militants in Doda and Kishtwar respectively. They have been handed over to police.
